Nothing can ruin your travel plans like getting sick right before you’re set to jet off. The trick to staying healthy before a vacation is to start early. Apart from keeping fit, eating healthy, and minding your hygiene, you can also include traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) treatments.

 

Maintain a Healthy Diet

While washing your hands with soap before eating and keeping hand sanitiser handy when overseas are all great tips, these practices may not stop you from getting sick if you have a weak immune system, to begin with.

 

 

One way you can improve your body’s immunity is by eating foods

that are high in protein, fibre, vitamin C, probiotics, and zinc.

These include vegetables, fruits, and fatty fish.

 

 

Complement this with at least two litres of water a day, even when you’re abroad. Herbal teas are also known to be great for strengthening your immune system.

 

Let Your Child Experience a Paediatric Massage

Lee says, “TCM believes that acupoints or certain areas located on the surface of the body are connected to the inner organs through network channels called meridians. Through the stimulation of these points via paediatric massage, a physician is able to regulate one’ss organ functions, and treat or prevent diseases.”

Regular exercise improves cardiovascular health, lowers blood pressure, helps maintain a healthy body weight, and protects against a variety of diseases.

 

 

Research has found that physical activity also provides a boost to the bacteria-fighting cells in your body.

This may ultimately reduce your susceptibility of coming down with the flu or catching a cold.

 

 

Mind Your Dental Health

Before embarking on an adventure, make time for a dental check-up so you’ll have peace of mind on your trip.

 

And, as soon as you reach your destination, remove your toothbrush from your toiletries bag and stand it upright. This would allow water to drain away from the bristles, preventing bacteria from breeding.

Lee explains, “Disease occurs when Qi is deficient or the flow is obstructed.
